3 Things You Need To Do Before The New Year

It’s that time of the year again! Vision Board Season! (in my DJ Holiday voice lol)

If you’ve been following me for a while, you know I like to take this time to reflect on my past year and make plans for the new year. By the way, how was your 2018 sis? Mine waaasss...okay. It wasn’t completely awful but it definitely had it’s not-so-great moments. However, I’m claiming that 2019 is amazing for you. We got this. Planning for an entire year can be overwhelming. Trust me, I get it. So, here are three, fairly-easy ways to help you start planning for next year!

One Word

I like to select one word as my “theme” for the year. It helps me create focus for my actions and tailor my decision-making. I started this practice 4 years ago and trust me, it’s life changing. My word for this year is THRIVE. I know all too well what it means to survive. I know what it’s like living paycheck to paycheck, how to make $20 stretch for a week, how to create random dishes out of the little bit of food left in the pantry, I. KNOW. THIS. LIFE. I can write a whole book about it. But now, I want to know what it feels like to truly live out my life’s passion, to live abundantly, and to live a FULL life. I want to thrive in every area of my life including career, relationships, finances, personal development, family...EVERYTHING. I want to cultivate a life that I don’t need a vacation from. A life that I love and enjoy living.

There is power in the words that we speak. I’m about to get a little deep (and I’ll try not to be too preachy). Think about it, when God created the universe, he spoke those things into existence. He said “let there be light” and then, it was lit. He said “let there be water” and boom, oceans flowing everywhere. You see what I’m saying? There is power in the things we say, and even in the thoughts we think. If you want to move into a house next year, say to yourself every day “I will move into my dream home this year”. If you want to earn more money this year, say to yourself every day, “I will earn more money this year.” It’s that simple. I’ve seen it proven in the lives of others and it’s something I want to try for myself. I’ll be honest, I didn’t really believe in all of that because...skepticism and cynicism. However, it was explained to me that when you speak the things you want to see happen in your life, you condition your brain and body to move toward that thing. Let’s get specific about what we want and start speaking them out loud today.

Digital Vision Board

I love getting up with my linesisters every year to make vision boards. It’s a good time to chill and sip wine, craft our visions, and share our goals. This year, I’m also planning on creating a digital version of my vision board. Nothing too fancy...just something that I can put as a screensaver on my phone and be reminded of what I’m working towards. I plan on using Photo Grid and making a collage of different images that resonate with my one word and things that I want to manifest in my life. I’m still working on pulling all the images together (talk about tedious), but once I’m done, I will share it with you all...promise.

I hope this helps you get a jumpstart on your 2019 planning. I’m excited for you and I can’t wait to witness all of the amazing things you’re going to do next year. In the meantime, what’s your one word? What are things you want to manifest in your life? You know I love to hear from you so share your plans in the comments below. Also, if you’re not already, be sure to subscribe and share this post with a friend who needs it.
